PILIPINO!!!!!!!!
so i'm listening to a local bay area radio station and what do i hear?

'Bebot Bebot
Ikaw ang aking
Bebot Bebot'

'PILIPINO! PILIPINO! PILIPINO!'...

!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LMFAO !!!!!!!!!!!!

hell nahhhh, apl of black eyed peas did not just make a song entirely in tagalog (philippine national language)... i'm assuming they played it on the radio because of the large numbers of filipino's that live in the bay area. i almost died laughing when i heard that shit. i grew up with my mom (never my dad--he always spoke to us in english), my aunts, and grandmothers speaking to me and my brothers in ilocano (another filipino dialect). strange as it seems to most, i can fully understand ilocano but i can't speak a lick of it. my parents only spoke tagalog among my brothers and i when they didn't want us to know what they were talking about. unfortunately for them i caught on and was able to decipher parts of their conversations in tagalog. so yes, back to the point.. i don't understand tagalog as much as i understand ilocano, but i grasped fragments of the song. true, the song when translated in english, isn't very funny at all... it's just i find it ODD to hear a song in tagalog on the radio. and hearing phrases like, 'hoy pare' and 'bebot' was enough to put me into fits of laughter.

MOVE B!@$%! GET OUT THE WAY!!!

there are some things that really get to me. for example, the slow ass drivers who think they are allowed to just leisurely drive along in the fast lane like they have no where in the world to be. it's 12:40pm. my appointment at 12:50. i'm driving 80mph trying to make a 15-20 minute drive in 10 minutes. i know you see me on your ass. MOVE. yes, the far left lane has become known in our society as the "fast lane," and in the beginning probably wasn't paved for the sole use of fast drivers; but if one chooses to get their driver's license in the state of california then that person should know when to get the hell out of the way. slower traffic should and are supposed to move to the right lanes. it's obvious that a lot of drivers pay no attention to those signs they have on most freeway's. people, people, all i'm asking is to just haul ass to the next lane, going under 75mph in the fast lane is a no, no. you're not only pissing me off, but you're probably making those tailgating me from behind mad as well.

Personal beef or rap war?
Tensions high between Bay Area, Midwest rappers after more deaths
By MATTHIAS GAFNI, Times-Herald staff writer

This 2000 Pontiac Sunfire convertible, which Las Vegas authorities believe is connected to a double homicide of two Kansas City rappers, was found burned and abandoned in Vallejo early Wednesday morning. Police are investigating the fire as an arson.

A burned car discovered in Vallejo on Wednesday has been connected to the Las Vegas slaying of a Kansas City rapper listed by police as a "person of interest" in local rap legend Mac Dre's death late last year.
The latest homicide has led rap Web sites and media outlets to speculate that a war of retaliation has begun between West Coast and Midwest rappers, specifically from the Bay Area and the Kansas City area. A Vallejo rap insider says the slayings were "isolated incidents" and not a larger feud, but some of Vallejo's most famous rappers have found themselves in the middle.

Rappers Anthony "Fat Tone" Watkins, 24, and Jermaine "Cowboy" Akins, 22, both of Kansas City, were found shot to death early Monday morning at a construction site near the Palms Casino, Las Vegas police said.

Fat Tone was considered a person of interest in the fatal November drive-by shooting in Kansas City involving Mac Dre, but police never listed Fat Tone as a suspect.

Police are seeking Las Vegas rapper Andre Dow, 34, a.k.a .Mac Minister, Tanisha Aaron, 27, and Jason Mathis, 24, of the San Francisco area, to question them about Monday's slaying, Las Vegas police Lt. Tom Monahan said.

Mac Minister is best known for his part in a brawl at a hip-hop awards show that involved Vallejo's most well-known and successful rapper, E-40. Mac Minister has contributed to albums by Mac Dre and E-40.

Family members of Fat Tone and his friend say the two slain men were in town for a Snoop Dogg concert at the Palms on Tuesday night, according to newspaper reports in Las Vegas and Kansas City. They said Mac Minister lured the two men to their deaths from the MGM Grand by promising to hook them up with Snoop Dogg's record label.

Vallejo car

A 2000 Pontiac Sunfire convertible connected to the trio was found burning at Sixth Street and Cherry Avenue early Wednesday morning, Vallejo fire inspector Bill Tweedy said.

The car was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived, Tweedy said. The entire interior and part of the exterior was destroyed, and the car was impounded by police.

It's unclear how police think the Pontiac is connected to the trio sought in Fat Tone's killing. Las Vegas police did not return several calls, and Vallejo Police Department officials declined comment.

After running the license plate, Vallejo police determined that Las Vegas authorities wanted the car in connection with the double homicide there, Tweedy said. There was no criminal evidence found in an initial search of the Pontiac's charred remains, but Tweedy said Las Vegas officials have requested a more detailed search.

"The only thing left on the vehicle - some of the sides still have paint," Tweedy said. "The rest of the car, inside and the top, is gone."

Police records show the Pontiac is registered to an address in Payson, Utah, a town 60 miles southeast of Salt Lake City. It was not reported stolen, Tweedy said.

Attempts to reach the car's last known owner were unsuccessful Thursday.

Escalating violence

Authorities said they are investigating whether Monday's killing of Fat Tone was part of a battle between Midwest and West Coast rappers and whether it was linked with the drive-by slaying of Andre "Mac Dre" Hicks in Kansas City, Mo.

At the time, various Web sites dedicated to rap and hip-hop music and artists said Mac Dre's shooting was a continuation of a Bay Area-Kansas City feud.

Fat Tone had seen a lot of violence lately. He was shot multiple times in 2003 while riding in an SUV with Sacramento rapper C-Bo and other rappers, according to rap Web sites and the Kansas City Star. C-Bo had produced Fat Tone's first three albums from California.

In October 2004, a month before Mac Dre's death, Fat Tone was allegedly shot at while leaving a Kansas City nightclub, a Web site reported.

Earlier in 2004, a San Diego rapper, Ramone C. Davis, was shot to death in Kansas City when a man tried to steal marijuana from him, police said.

Despite the violence, the editor of Vallejo-based Murder Dog magazine, Black Dog Bone, said no war has broken out.

"It's personal things between people, but it's not about a whole town in the Bay Area with a whole town in Kansas," the industry insider said.

"There is no rap war going on between the Midwest and the West. The newspapers are doing something really horrible," Black Dog said. "There is no rap war going on. This is just going to make all the hot heads do something horrible.

"I know all the underground people and there's no war going on. This is absurd."

Tensions between both sides were strained shortly after Mac Dre's death, Black Dog said, when Fat Tone put out a street mix that dogged Mac Dre.

"Fat Tone was a young guy who came up. He was always a trouble maker from Day One, but he had nothing to do with Mac Dre's death," Black Dog said.

The editor said Fat Tone put out the controversial mix to make money.

"He's been like that. He capitalized on things like that," Black Dog said. "As soon as he was shot (in 2004), he put out a CD and sold a lot."

Black Dog said he's heard rumors that Mac Dre's death was related to a botched club gig.

Kansas City police, at the time, said they were having trouble tracking down Mac Dre's associates to interview them about the drive-by slaying. But Detective Everett Babcock said his department has heard rumors of retaliation for the murder.

"We're hearing talk of California planning to retaliate. They're talking trash back and forth on the Web sites, but it's all based on rumor," Babcock told the Times-Herald in November.

Black Dog said for safety reasons even his sources are avoiding mentioning names regarding the latest incident. He said the shooter could be a rapper, "but it has nothing to do with Mac Dre's camp. In the rap industry right now there's a lot of hot-headed kids and right now drugs are real bad Š it's like the Œ70s.

"It's like some kind of Wild West story happening," Black Dog said.

Mac Minister

One person Las Vegas police wish to speak to, Mac Minister, has a tarnished history with Vallejo's famous E-40, aka Earl Stevens.

The pair squared off in 2000 during The Source Awards in Pasadena, prematurely ending the show and sparking numerous altercations.

On E-40's Web site is a copy of the letter he sent The Source magazine after the incident, describing his role in the infamous brawl.

In the letter, E-40 writes: "Andre Dow (Mac Minister) has, over the last four years, followed and stalked me."

E-40 explained how Dow contributed to one of his albums and since then has allegedly crashed E-40's parties and claimed an association with the famous rap star.

At the music awards show, E-40 said Mac Minister approached him and started yelling incoherently.

"He began to approach me spitting, cussing, and threatening to do me. He began to reach out at me, grabbing my necklace and pendant, and I went to push him back away from me. The next thing I know, I am being grabbed at and taken out of the Arena by my body guard. When I go outside, I noticed that my $30,000 necklace/pendant and $40,000 bracelet had been taken," E-40 wrote.

He adds that: "I never saw Andre Dow again that night or since."

E-40 did not return a call Thursday.

Kansas City

Why Kansas City?

Rap war with the Kansas City area or not, the Bay Area hip-hop connection to Kansas City is not in doubt.

"So many of the Bay Area people go to Kansas to make money," Black Dog said.

Although thousands of miles apart, the two rap scenes are very similar, he said. That started about seven years ago when Rich the Factor "came to the Bay Area to get beats," working with artists like San Francisco's JT the Bigga Figga, Black Dog said.

"He was living in the Bay for a while," the editor said. "He took the sound back into Kansas. He was the pioneer rapper in Kansas and he was making Bay Area beats.

"That opened up the market for our own rappers there because it's like a Bay Area sound," he said. "(Bay Area rappers) sell tons of CDs in Kansas."

Mac Dre memorial takes place today

By RACHEL RASKIN-ZRIHEN, Times-Herald staff writer

The family of Andre Hicks, otherwise known as Mac Dre, is allowing fans to pay their last respects today to the former Vallejo rap artist as Kansas City police investigate his shooting death there a week ago.

The visitation will be held from noon to 5 p.m. today at the Mount Calvary Baptist Church, 1735 Enterprise Dr., Fairfield. The family is holding a private memorial service at another time, a Solano Valley Mortuary spokesperson said.

Kansas City Police Department Capt. Rich Lockhart said detectives there are following up on leads, but no suspect has been officially identified.

"We're still trying to identify who was driving the car. We're talking to all sorts of people and gathering information," Lockhart said. "We've got a pretty good idea, but it's a matter of putting all the puzzle pieces together, and a few of the pieces are still missing."

Hicks, 34, was fatally shot while seated in the back of a white van with tinted windows early last Monday on a nearly deserted Highway 71 in Kansas City. The van's driver lost control, the vehicle went over an embankment and Hicks was ejected from the vehicle. The driver, who survived, couldn't find Hicks in the dark, and went for help. Hicks was later found dead.

A tip led police to a stolen black 2003 Infiniti G36 they believe was used in the shooting, and then ditched.

Hicks was in town for a concert, and had performed the Friday before he died in Kansas City, Kan., police said. Police said they think Hicks may have been targeted because he decided not to perform at a private VIP party that Sunday night.

Hicks had been advertised as a headliner at the event, but apparently was not paid or asked to perform there, and only stayed for about 30 minutes, police said.

Hicks, who released more than 20 albums, including one recorded from prison, was enjoying a surge in popularity, record sales and radio airplay at the time of his death.

Friends of Mac Dre struggle to understand

By RACHEL RASKIN-ZRIHEN, Times-Herald staff writer

Family, friends and fans of Mac Dre were trying to make sense of the rapper's violent death Tuesday as investigators sifted through evidence that included a bullet-riddled van and what may be the suspect's 2003 Infiniti G36.
Dre, whose given name was Andre Hicks, was killed early Monday in Kansas City, Mo., when an unknown suspect fired through the vehicle on U.S. 71. Though the driver crawled to safety, Dre was thrown from the van and pronounced dead at the scene.

Kansas City police reported late Tuesday that Dre died from a bullet wound. He was 34.

"He was like the Beatles or Elvis, but on a smaller scale to a lot of people," said Vallejo native James Trujillo, otherwise known as Jay Tee of the rap group, N2DEEP. "I've known Dre since the late 1980s. He was my biggest influence. He was a for-real superstar."

Kansas City Police Department spokesman Darin Snapp said homicide detectives are following leads and releasing few details.

"There were about a dozen bullet holes (in the van), I can say that, but I can't say what kind of gun was used," Snapp said. "Only one person knows that, and that way, when we catch the perpetrator, he won't be able to say, I read it in the newspaper.' "

Snapp said police have "some pretty good leads on it," and are questioning "someone who's cooperating. We should know something by the end of the week."

Police linked the Infiniti to the shooting but declined to specify what the evidence was, reported Channel 9 in Kansas City. The vehicle was found with no license plates.

Dre had staged a concert in Kansas City, Kan., on Friday night and stayed in the area during the weekend.

Back in the Bay Area, despondent relatives and friends paid tribute to the pioneer rapper. "Life wasn't fair to Andre. It dealt him a pretty low deal, but he always managed to keep his spirits up. He'd look at you in a certain way, and you'd know he was going to be OK," said Betty Landers of Vallejo, the grandmother of Hicks' 13-year-old child, Dran Hicks.

Landers described Hicks as her daughter's boyfriend - the man her daughter used to skip school to see - "a long, lanky kid trying to make people happy. He was funny as hell.

"I grew to love Andre. He was never Mac Dre to me. He left a legend for all of us to learn - not to give up on your dreams," Landers said.

Others, too, believe Hicks is too widely remembered for youthful mistakes.

"He tried so hard to be a good person. He was a good boy, and now that he's gone, he should be left alone with all the negative stuff," said Bernard Hicks, Dre's uncle, and the brother of Vallejo teacher and former City Council member Foster Hicks.

Andre Hicks spent several years in prison for his part in an attempted bank robbery, and was linked to a rash of robberies in the early 1990s by north Vallejo's Romper Room Gang. Even so, many said Hicks had pulled his life together.

"He was a very good person," said Marquetta Hall, Dre's stepmother. "He was a very young man when he did those negative things he did. But he also funded children's programs in Sacramento, and did free concerts there and in the park by the North Vallejo Community Center, near the Country Club Crest where he had lived with his grandmother."

Dre would hand out turkeys in the Crest at Thanksgiving, said Hicks' half-sister, Jacquil Hicks.

"I'm not saying he was a saint, but he just did things, out of the kindness of his heart and wasn't the type who liked to brag," Hall said.

Hall said she met Hicks when he was about 9.

"He was the cutest little boy," Hall said. "He always said, When I get older I'm gonna be a rapper.' "

Hicks attended Peoples High School in Vallejo and was well-liked, if a little rowdy as a teenager, Hall said.

"But he was always well-mannered and respectful of his elders," Hall said. "I know he did some things here and there, but lots of people make bad choices in their past."

Hall said Hicks moved to Sacramento about four years ago to make a fresh start. Jacquil Hicks, 24, also of Sacramento, said she fondly recalls the early days in Vallejo with her brother.

"He was my only big brother, and I really looked up to him," she said. "He was my idol. I was a girl and I wanted to be him. I dressed up as him for Halloween in eighth grade at Vallejo Middle School and won the costume contest."

Jacquil Hicks said her famous brother inspired her to write, something she still does.

"I won a talent contest at Vallejo High School for rapping, because of his inspiration," she said.

"He wanted to be a real star and he knew he had to get away from all the negativity to get there and that's what he was doing," Jacquil Hicks said. "He was getting out of all that rowdiness. He'd gotten more mature, and he was on his way. It's really sad. It was too soon. He'd made it so far. He was almost there. It almost seems like there are forces that don't want to see people pull themselves out of the negative energy, because just when they start to do it, something like this happens."
